United Way of Central Florida's Success By 6 Initiatives

Parent Resource Guide
The Success By 6 Parent Resource Guide is published three times a year in The Lakeland Ledger to assist our parents and families in linking with services and community agencies in Polk, Highlands, and Hardee Counties. It is a 12 page insert into the Sunday paper that also contains informative articles and notification of upcoming events.

Spirit of the Family
This award honors businesses that provide family friendly policies and workplaces. Winners of this award have demonstrated that they are committed to providing policies that improve the quality of life by helping employees to balance work and family commitments. This investment in our children promotes greater economic growth and a stronger workforce.

School Readiness Neighborhood Initiative
This initiative targets neighborhoods where children that are considered at-risk for school failure reside. It provides an internship for childcare instructors using a Master Teacher along with parent education classes to help the instructors and the parents help prepare children to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

Parent Lending Libraries
These actual, portable libraries are being established at childcare centers that participate in the Neighborhood Initiative to encourage parents to read with their children. This promotes the early literacy skills that prepare children to enter school ready to succeed.

Born Learning
This is an innovative public engagement campaign that helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality early learning opportunities for children. Through national public service advertising, parent materials and community mobilization activities, Born Learning provides "doable" action steps that are fun, easy and can be done in everyday moments, to prepare young children for school.
